Bottle Gentians are uncommon, though they are not rare enough to be a species of special concern in Pennsylvania. This one was blooming behind a deer fence in Bird Park, Mount Lebanon, so we did what we could with the camera. The flowers appear in the fall, and they never open any more than this. Their purple-tinged blue color gives its name to the color Gentian Blue (#004E7C for you HTML coders).
