    Above, an unusual strong bicolor form of Bugles, where white flowers have strong deep-blue veining. Below, another bicolor, but with the blue veining dominating. These plants were growing in the Seldom Seen Greenway.

    A European import prized as a groundcover, and now a thoroughly naturalized citizen of our flora. These were blooming in Bird Park, Mount Lebanon.

  • Bugles (Ajuga reptans)

    Ajuga reptans

    A popular ground cover often found wild in the woods or even in city lawns. The cultivated varieties often have purple or variegated leaves; the wild ones have attractive dark-green leaves. These were blooming in the Kane Woods Nature Area, Scott Township, where they had their pictures taken on May 5.
